The Business Developer (BD) is responsible for Keesen Landscape Management’s Commercial Landscape Management sales in his/her assigned territories and the surrounding areas. Fulfillment of the primary responsibilities outlined below will assure timely submission of full-service landscape management proposals that are responsive to client needs, well-documented, and have been developed to achieve a target level of profitable performance when performed. The Business Developer reports directly to the Director of Landscape Maintenance. This role will come with well-defined goals for new sales, profitability performance and sales activity.
Specific responsibilities highlighted below:
Commercial Landscape Management Sales
This individual will be responsible for the entire sales process from prospecting and lead generation to estimating, proposal development and transition after the sale.
The BD will work closely with the Director of Landscape Maintenance to prioritize opportunities to pursue in accordance with Keesen’s market focus. The goal is to seek out “negotiated and relationship-based” rather than “blind bid” work.
The BD will build a network of community and industry contacts to develop and cultivate close relationships with major prospects and generate viable opportunities. The BD will evaluate sources and utilize a variety of methods for generating leads, including existing clients and referrals, targeted cold calling, trade associations, trade journals, Chambers of Commerce, web-based marketing (e.g. LinkedIn Sales Navigator), etc.
Relationship management is critical, so it is necessary that the BD is diligent in collecting critical information and utilizing a CRM to maintain lead information and track activity.
Client Relations, Service & Quality Control
Recognizing that establishing strong long-term relationships is vital for the strength of Keesen’s business, all activities and communication with clients must be handled in a professional, timely manner. The BD should remain engaged with all new clients post-sale. Conducting customer surveys and periodic site inspections will ensure we’re preforming the job the way it was sold.
While field management is responsible for informing clients of any situation that affects ongoing property maintenance, timely completion of services, or that otherwise might negatively impact their investment, it is important to also stay abreast of such matters and to serve as an advocate for the client when appropriate. The BD should assist the operations team in communicating with clients as needed. Regular participation in operational meetings to understand operational activity and status and provide feedback based upon personal observation and communication from clients.
The BD will set goals, ensure that they are realistic, attainable, and measurable; write them down and track results in a CRM or other tools. It is also expected that the BD will pursue personal and professional development through continuing education and industry certifications.
Desired Qualifications & Skills
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a Horticulture-related field or equivalent experience. We are taking a consultative sales approach, and putting subject matter experts out in the field to be the first point of contact will allow us to simplify the process and allow us to build trusting relationships.
This person will take initiative to prospect, generate leads, perform field estimating, collaborate with clients to identify their true landscaping needs and deliver proposals that will benefit both the client and the company. They will also demonstrate persistence by following up with key clients regularly, and deliver the right new business to our operations teams.
The BD will demonstrate self-discipline to stay focused on meeting key sales and margin goals is crucial to the company’s growth. This person must be optimistic with a good competitive edge and have the good of the whole organization in mind.
This person must demonstrate a level of caring and knowledge that allows you to become a “Trusted Advisor” for current and potential clients. The ideal candidate will be motivated to deliver the industry-leading customer service that Keesen is known for and will hold the team accountable to continue care for our customers and continue to strengthen our relationships.
